Dr. Giuliana Conti, Music Workshop’s Director of Education and Equity, and Coty Raven Morris, Professor of Choir, Music Education, and Social Justice at Portland State and Music Workshop’s Professional Development Host, presented and discussed the fundamentals of well-being research and how music listening and engagement were connected to well-being.
The focus was on how students learned emotional self-regulation through music. Attendees learned about the PERMA model of well-being from positive psychology and how to apply it in real time to support students socially and emotionally. Music listening activities were highlighted for any teacher to integrate into their current practices, and attendees were welcome to bring their questions for deeper meaning and understanding of the material.
